Get started with your secure hardware wallet

Follow a simple, secure setup to protect your crypto and private keys. This guide leads you through unboxing, device initialization, creating a recovery seed, and best practices for keeping your assets safe—step by step.

Setup walkthrough

1

Unbox & verify

Start by confirming the package seal is intact. Genuine devices include tamper-evident packaging and a unique device identifier. Power the device, follow the on-screen greeting, and verify the device fingerprint with the companion app or official website to ensure authenticity.

2

Create a new wallet

Select “Create new” on the device. A secure random number generator inside the device will generate your private keys—keys never leave the device. Choose a PIN to protect device access; make it long but memorable, and never share it with anyone.

3

Write down your recovery seed

The device will display your recovery phrase one word at a time. Write the words down on the provided card or a steel backup. This phrase is the only way to recover funds if the device is lost, stolen, or damaged—store it offline and never photograph or store it digitally.

4

Confirm the seed

To ensure accuracy, the device will ask you to confirm several words from the recovery phrase. This step verifies you recorded the seed correctly. If you make a mistake, securely reset and repeat the process—do not skip confirmation.

5

Install companion software

Install the official companion app on your computer or mobile device. Use the app to manage accounts, review transactions, and install firmware updates. Always download software from the manufacturer’s official site and verify checksums where provided.

6

Test with a small transaction

Before depositing large amounts, send a small test transaction to confirm everything works as expected. Validate addresses on the device screen and confirm transactions only after checking them carefully. Monitor network fees and confirm the receiving address exactly matches what you expect.

7

Maintain long-term security

Keep firmware updated, enable additional protections where available (passphrase support, two-factor for companion accounts), and store recovery material offline and geographically separated if possible. Consider a fireproof or steel backup for ultimate resilience.

Security tip Never share your recovery phrase or PIN. No legitimate support agent will ever ask for them. If you suspect compromise, transfer funds to a new wallet whose seed you control.
